STOP HUNGER NOW AND HYPROP'S CANAL WALK COMBINE FORCES TO FEED NEEDY CHILDREN
Friday 17 July saw the Canal Walk Food Court transformed into multiple packing stations for Stop Hunger Now’s “a million meals challenge” for Mandela Day. The Hyprop Foundation was the anchor sponsor for the Cape Town event, where over 5000 corporate volunteers spent 67 minutes packing meals.
By spending 67 minutes each volunteer will have packed enough meals to enable one child to be fed for an entire year. The Stop Hunger Now packaged meal consists of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a mixture of 21 vitamins and minerals.
According to the Children’s Institute, more than 3 million children under the age of 17 experience hunger in South Africa. The goal of the campaign was to package 1 million nourishing meals for approximately 248 Early Child Development facilities nationwide on Mandela Day.

The Hyprop Foundation NPC, Hyprop Investment Limited’s corporate social investment organisation was founded in 2013, as part of the Social and Ethics Committee mandate. Hyprop recognised the overwhelming drive within the organisation to contribute positively to communities surrounding Hyprop shopping centres.
The Foundation is focused on creating a culture of community involvement and sustainability in South Africa; specifically on the role that Hyprop shopping centres play within their local communities. Its core objective is to engage in projects that are aligned to promote Hyprop’s core business of retail property investment and retail development.
All initiatives contribute to communities and programmes within a fifteen kilometre radius of Hyprop shopping centres. Hyprop staff and stakeholders contribute their time and donations to identified projects, which benefit and uplift local communities. Upliftment projects include environmental, community health, educational and cultural projects.
